The North star

Our fixed point

The four-point star from the logo is also our most useful graphic device. It marks what matters, the way the Pole Star marks north.

Used sparingly, the star turns an ordinary layout into a North layout: a highlight on the one number that matters, the light in a dark composition, the point a set of ideas connect to. Used everywhere, it becomes wallpaper. Treat it like a signature, not a pattern.

Construction

Four points, one long

  • Four points with concave sides, drawn from the logo.
  • Top, left and right points are equal; the lower point is 1.6× longer, reaching towards the ground.
  • The waist is narrow: about a fifth of the arm length.
  • Always upright. The long point always faces down.

Use the supplied artwork (north-star-*.svg). For product UI, the north-star icon is the outline version on the 24px grid.

Colours

Snow by night, Midnight by day

On dark backgrounds the star is Snow, or the signal colour of the sub-brand you are speaking for. On light backgrounds it is Midnight. It is never filled with a gradient.

Ways to use the star

As the light in a composition

One large star, high in a dark sky, over Dune contours or the night gradient. This is our hero image when there is no photo or illustration. Place it on a third line, never dead centre, and let it glow softly.

As a highlight

A small star marks the single most important thing on a page: the key figure in a chart, the recommended plan, the current step. One per view.

The star marks the result we want you to remember.

As a constellation

To show how ideas or products connect, place the North star at the centre and link smaller stars to it with fine dashed lines. Each smaller star can take a signal colour. Keep it to five nodes or fewer, and label every one.

As a bullet or marker

In short lists of principles or benefits, a small Midnight or Oasis star can replace the bullet. Use it for lists of three to five items, never for long or nested lists.

  • Models run inside your perimeter
  • A named human approves every action

Dos and don'ts

Do

  • Use one prominent star per layout.
  • Keep it upright with the long point down.
  • Let it glow softly on dark backgrounds.
  • Use it to point at what matters.

Don't

  • Rotate, skew or redraw it.
  • Use five-point or six-point stars, or emoji.
  • Scatter many large stars like confetti.
  • Fill it with gradients or outline it on marketing artwork.
  • Use it as a generic AI sparkle.
